Service: Food Baskets

Our youth (and parents too if you are interested) will have a service opportunity on Wednesday, Nov. 20. 

We will be helping our Hope Social Ministry team pack the food baskets that will be given out to those in need in our community. We will meet at 6:15, but dinner will be available at 5:30 if you are interested.

Event: Bowling

BODY will go to Naval Station Norfolk for pizza and bowling on Sunday, November 17.

We will meet at Hope at at 12:15 after late service to head to the base. The cost is $10 per person. We will return to Hope at 4:00.  If your youth didn't sign and would like to go let us know so we can add them to the list!

Event: Captive Free

This coming Wednesday, Nov. 13, Captive Free East Coast Team will be at hope at 6:30.

They will offer a program of worship, music, skits, witness and much more. It is always an enjoyable and uplifting time for all ages. This group will also be at Zone in March so it will give us an opportunity to meet them now. There will be dinner starting at 5:30.

Sunday Mornings: Confirmation I and II Updates

We have spent the first six weeks diving into the Gospels and learning when they were written and more importantly who they were written for.

We learned about the Synoptic Gospels and why John provides us with a much different view of Jesus.  We started to  explore the aspects of Jesus and learned he was both True Man and True God who has been there since before the creation.  I have included one of the worksheets that your student completed in class and continues to be a great reference.  Please find it under the "Downloads" Section on the side of this blog.

I am looking forward to continuing our way through the gospels and diving into Acts in the coming months.

Events: Corn Maze

Mark your calendar! We will be meeting up for an evening of fellowship with other Lutheran Youth Groups in our area on October 26th.

We will enjoy a corn maze and bonfire at Bergey's Breadbasket.

We will need volunteer drivers! So, if you are available, please contact Rick or Linda at cgmuth@gmail.com

This is our annual event with other youth groups from our circuit. It will be a fun evening of hayrides, corn maze, and bonfires for roasting hot dogs and making s’mores, plus devotion time. We will meet at Hope at 5:15pm and return about 9:30pm. The cost for the evening is $10. Sign up and payment are due by Sunday, October 20th.

This is a great opportunity for them to invite friends to join us. We will need parents to help drive, so let me know if you can help. Your food will be covered and if you want to do the maze it will cost $8.

Events: Surge

We just found out about a Christian event coming to the Lynnhaven theater this Wednesday, Oct. 09.  It is called Surge and is described as a "high energy, interactive movie theater event fusing music, comedy and inspirational messages".

TRUTH and our BODY confirmation students (not in First Communion class) are planning to go. The show starts at 7:00pm at the AMC LYNNHAVEN 18 Theatre, 1001 Lynnhaven Mall Loop, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 23452 .

We need to be there by 6:30pm and the group will plan to leave church by 6:00pm. If your youth would like to go they can either meet us at church by 6:00pm or at the theater by 6:30pm. If meeting there, they should call/email one of the leaders so we can meet up with them.

If you are planning to eat at church first, be sure they are there right at 5:30pm so they have time.

The cost of the event is $12.50. You can go online and purchase tickets in advance (which I recommend since it is only being shown once in this area). We will be back to church by 9:00pm.

If your youth is planning to go, please let Linda Muth know ASAP so, we can plan for transportation or know to be looking for them if they meet us there.

For those not wanting to go, there will be a leader staying at church to lead Hang Out time in the Loft like usual. Sorry this is such short notice, but I think it will be an exciting event.

Meetings: Post Confirmation Orientation Overview

In case you missed last night's meeting, here's a quick re-cap for what's going on this year with the Confirmation I, II and III classes:

1. Confirmation Instruction will take place every week during the Sunday School hour.
• Confirmation I and II will be studying New Testament.
• Confirmation III will be studying Luther's Small Catechism.
• See current schedule here.
2. First Communion Instruction 
• New this year: Students as young as 6th grade may attend this class.
• Students must be accompanied by at least one parent, but both are welcome!
• Classes will happen this Fall, on Wednesday nights at 6:15pm, starting on Sept. 18th. 
3. Volunteer! 
• Throughout the year there will be many opportunities to help the BODY youth leaders with events, please let us know if you are interested!

Meetings: Confirmation Orientation

It's hard to believe that school will be starting in just a few days. I hope that the summer has been a good one for you and your family.

The Confirmation Orientation meeting for students and parents will be tomorrow, September 5, at 7:00 in the Fellowship hall. Our program is for 6th-8th graders and high school youth who have not yet been confirmed. The meeting will be an overview of the confirmation program, schedules for the year, and of course the filling out of paperwork. I hope you and your child will be able to attend, this is a very important time in the faith walk of your youth.

Events: Sonfest

This Sunday, September 8, join Hope in celebrating Sonfest! This is our official kickoff to all the fall programs at Hope. Worship will begin at 9:30am with one service in the sanctuary. There will be a short Sunday school time for youth and a Ministry Fair for the adults. This is a great opportunity for you to hear about all the ministries at Hope and see how you might become involved with one of them (like Youth!!).

A church picnic follows with lots of yummy food and games for everyone. It's always a fun day, so plan to come and enjoy!
